Sugarcane farmers to protest outside sugar mill on June 29

Batala, Punjab: Sugarcane farmers have decided to launch agitation outside Chadha sugar mill for their pending cane arrears. According to the media report published in Dainik Jagran, the delegation of farmers met Tehsildar Baljidar Singh over pending sugarcane arrears.

Speaking to reporters, sugarcane farmer Balvider Singh Raju said, “The mill has not paid the cane bills to the farmers. Cane growers are facing a financial shortage.”

Recently, following the instructions issued by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, cooperative sugar mills have released an amount of Rs 62 crore to the sugarcane farmers. Earlier, raising the voice against the delay in cane payments by the ruling Congress government in Punjab, its own party leaders had taken up the issue with the government. Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa and three MLAs had written a letter to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to address the issue on a priority basis.
