Sugarcane institute will prove helpful for cane growers, says Minister

Chandigarh: Sugarcane Research and Development Institute at Kalanaur (Gurdaspur) would play a major role in providing training to the sugarcane farmers and helping them to acquaint with modern techniques so that the sugarcane output would increase, said Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab Cooperation Minister. He was speaking at a meeting of the Punjab Sugarcane Research and Development Institute’s governing council on Tuesday.

Minister said, “It will also help to develop the pure seed of elite sugarcane varieties having higher per acre yield and sugar recovery thus resulting in augmenting the income of farmers and sugar mills.”

“The institute will soon take up research and development activities that would boost agricultural diversification and help farmers to increase their income,” he further added.
