Sugarcane SAP remains unchanged in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: The State Advisory Price (SAP) of sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh will remain the same for the third year in a row. The government made no change in sugarcane SAP. Three years ago SAP was hiked by the UP government for the crushing season 2017-18 after BJP came into power.

With this, the rates of three different varieties of sugarcane have remained unchanged at Rs 315 per quintal for common variety, Rs 325 for early variety and Rs 310 for rejected varieties.

According to government officials, most of the sugar mills have already started clearing cane bills based on last year’s SAP.

Slamming the government decision, the opposition has stated that it will launch agitation against unchanged sugarcane SAP on streets.

SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said, “This decision is anti-farmer and indicates that the government only care for sugar mills and not cane growers. All the promises made by the government are only a myth.”

Ajay Kumar Lallu, state president, Congress party said, “We will raise the issue in the Assembly. The government has not been able to clear last year’s cane dues and now it has not increased SAP.”
