Tamil Nadu: Amaravathi Sugar Mills to clear cane dues soon

Tirupur: The Amaravathi Co-Op Sugar Mills has provided reassurance to farmers, confirming that the initial payment for the procured sugarcane will be disbursed on Friday, reports The New Indian Express.

According to the farmers in Madathukulam and Udumalaipet, the mill is paying them their dues after a delay of more than 60 days.

The sugar mill crushed 43,546 tonnes of sugarcane from May 3- July 3 period and the cane was procured from 664 farmers. The mill paid dues to 310 farmers but had not cleared dues worth Rs 7.55 crore.

Bala Dhandapan, secretary, of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association (Udumalaipet) said, “Amaravathi mill has a crushing capacity of more than 70,000 tonnes but is crushing at lower capacity due to lack of modernization.”
