Tamil Nadu: Sugarcane farmers demand pending cane arrears

Madurai, Tamil Nadu: Sugarcane farmers in the district are yet to receive cane arrears of around Rs 21.70 crore from the Vasudevanallur-based Dharani sugar mill for the crushing season 2018-19.

According to the media reports published in The Hindu, the district administration has sought clarification from the Tamil Nadu Government on the action to be taken against the company. At many occasions, sugarcane farmers had raised the issue with the government regarding pending cane dues. The farmers also raised the issue at the grievance day meeting held remotely on Friday.

District collector G.S. Sameeran told farmers that the district administration has asked the state government about the action taken against the mill for delaying cane payment. He also stated that the letter has been sent to the Dharani Sugars.
