New Delhi: The ethanol production capacity of India’s second-largest sugar producer company, Triveni Engineering & Industries will increase to 540-kilo litre per day (KLPD) from the existing 320 KLPD once the company commissions two new ethanol plants next month, reports The Hindu Business Line.
The company has aimed to increase production to 660 KLPD before the beginning of next season.
Tarun Sawhney, Managing Director, Triveni Engineering & Industries, said, “While the Muzaffarnagar grain-based 60 KLPD distillery will be in addition to an already operational 160 KLPD (sugarcane-based) plant, the Milak Narayanpur unit of 160 KLPD will have interchangeable feedstock (grain and sugarcane) to produce ethanol.”
“The country’s sugar sector has been stabilized after the reintroduction of release order mechanism along with the export quota allocation and ethanol blending programme (EBP),” he further added.
India, the world’s third-biggest oil importer, depends on foreign supply to meet its 80 per cent demand. To save on foreign expenditure, last year, the country announced to increase ethanol blending by 20 per cent by 2025 which was earlier set at 2030.
