UP millers demand subsidy on sugarcane

New Delhi: Sugar millers from Uttar Pradesh are gearing to commence the crushing season 2019-2020. But still, the cane dues of season 2018-2019 have not been cleared yet. Millers in the state claim due to excessive sugar production and depressed sugar prices, they failed to accumulate money and pay the arrears to the cane growers. Therefore, as per media reports, they have asked the state government to provide a subsidy of Rs 30 on per quintal sugarcane.

The sugar mills in the state still owe more than 4,5000 crore rupees to sugarcane farmers. As millers are under pressure to clear the cane arrears, private mills have requested the state government to settle the power dues around Rs 1,000 crore so that they can pay the pending arrears.

Sugarcane arrears in Uttar Pradesh are getting cleared at a snail pace; therefore CM Yogi Adityanath had served October 31 deadline to all mills for clearing the cane arrears.
