Uttar Pradesh: Cane cultivation area increases in Pilibhit

Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: Though the sugarcane farmers in Pilibhit are yet to get the pending cane arrears still they prefer growing sugarcane. The departmental survey shows sugarcane cultivation has increased by 3,066 hectares this year.

According to the news report published in The Times Of India, District cane officer Jitendra Kumar Mishra said during 2019-20, farmers in the district cultivated cane crop in 98071.24 hectares and in the current cropping year, it has gone up to 1,01,137 hectares.

Speaking about India, there has been no impact of COVID-19 on the progress of area coverage under kharif crops. As on 17 July 2020, total kharif crops have been sown on 691.86 lakh ha area against 570.86 lakh ha area during the corresponding period of last year, thus increase in area coverage by 21.20 per cent compared to last year in the country. Farmers have sown sugarcane on 51.29 lakh ha area against 50.82 lakh ha area last year i.e. increase in area coverage by 0.92 per cent.
