Uttar Pradesh: Farmer organisation demands to increase sugarcane price

Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh: The national president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Pathik), Neeraj Chaudhary, has demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government to declare a sugarcane price of Rs 500 per quintal for the new crushing season, reported Amar Ujala.

Chaudhary, who was addressing a monthly meeting of the union on Saturday, said that the government has not yet announced the sugarcane price, leaving farmers in a state of uncertainty.

He said due to the rising cost of production, sugarcane price should be raised of at least Rs 500 per quintal.

Chaudhary also demanded that the government should take steps to clear the pending sugarcane dues owed by sugar mills.

He said that the farmers are suffering due to the delay in payment of the dues.
