Uttar Pradesh: Farmers demand higher sugarcane prices, timely payments

Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: A delegation of farmers led by Nepal Singh Tomar, national president of the Rashtriya Kisan Union, met with official in the district magistrate office on Tuesday to demand a higher sugarcane price for the upcoming season, reported Live Hindustan.

While handing over the memorandum in the name of the Chief Minister to the Tehsildar, farmers demanded to declare the sugarcane price of the upcoming session at Rs 500 per quintal.

They also demanded that farmers be paid for their sugarcane on time and that interest be paid on outstanding payments if the payment period is exceeded.

In addition, the delegation demanded that no taxes be levied on agricultural machinery.
