Uttar Pradesh: Five more sugar mills clear pending cane dues

Muzaffarnagar: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s warning to the sugar mills is yielding results. Five mills from the Muzaffarnagar district cleared all sugarcane dues for 2018-19 season. Only three mills now have to pay the cane dues around Rs 224 crore. So far, mills in district paid 92 per cent sugarcane dues to cane growers.

In the last 15 days, many sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh paid the dues. Recently, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to clear the cane dues with 15 per cent interest on it within a month. The court issued the order after hearing a petition filed by farmers from Uttar Pradesh.

Also, issuing a warning against the defaulter sugar mills, the UP government had set a deadline of October 31 to pay all the arrears of sugarcane farmers.
