The 2023-24 crushing season in Uttar Pradesh is nearing its end, with sugar mills in the state operating efficiently. According to the sugarcane department, as of March 15, 2024, 102 out of 121 sugar mills in the state are crushing sugarcane.
Sugarcane mills have procured 8437.60 lakh quintals of sugarcane from farmers so far, and operational mills are crushing at over 65% capacity. The smooth functioning of sugar mills has ensured uninterrupted cane supply from farmers, the sugarcane department said.
In terms of sugar production, data from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) showed that 847.37 lakh tonnes of sugarcane have been crushed, producing 88.55 lakh tonnes of sugar in the state as of March 15, 2024.
