Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills owe Rs 4,832 crore to cane growers as on September 1

New Delhi: Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh, as on September 1, have cleared 86.27 per cent of the total cane dues for the 2021-22 crushing season which amounts to Rs 30,368.73 crore, according to the Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.

The mills are however yet to clear dues of Rs 4,832 crore to the farmers for the ongoing crushing season.

BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali on August 5 had raised the issue of pending cane dues in the Lok Sabha and responding to it, the minister had stated that the mills were supposed to pay Rs 35,201.22 crore to the cane farmers for the 2021-22 crushing season and they have so far cleared dues worth Rs 30,368.73 crore.

As per the data collected by the state government on September 1, the mills are yet to pay Rs 4,832.49 crore to the cane farmers.

The government has issued notices to the sugar mills that have not yet cleared cane dues of farmers, she said.
