Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers climb on trees for pending arrears

Mawana: Demanding the pending cane arrears, two sugarcane farmers in Mawana city climbed on the tree situated in the Tehsil area. Police, fire brigade and sugarcane secretary took immediate action and rescued them. The duo was later released after warning.

The Kisan Ekata Sangharsh organization had launched an agitation for pending arrears from sugar mills in the region. They had launched sit-in agitation for their demand in front of the Tehsil office. On Friday afternoon, Shaukin Gurjar, president of the organization, climbed on the tree to raise press for their demands. After some time, another member climbed on the tree. The government officials reached the spot and requested them to climb down, but they did not pay heed. Later on, police intervened and brought them down.

The government officials have assured them to look into the matter and ensure the speedy action regarding payment of pending dues.
