Uttarakhand Congress MLAs protest in support sugarcane farmers

Dehradun: The MLAs belonging to Congress party protested outside Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly with carrying sugarcanes in their hand. They were however stopped from entering in the house by the security personnel on the second day of the winter session.

The legislator was carrying sugarcane to support the protest of sugarcane farmers and to raise their issues in the house. They were allowed to enter the house leaving the cane outside.

The Congress MLAs alleged that the BJP-led government is ignoring the farmers’ issues. Congress legislator Qazi Muhammad Nizamuddin speaking to news agency ANI said that the sugar mills owe pending dues worth Rs 175 crore. The government is not taking steps to ensure cane arrears payment. We want the government to determine the price of sugarcane in accordance with inflation. The chief minister has been saying that he made the payment of sugarcanes. But the complete payment has not been made yet.”
