Uttarakhand: Farmers demand govt to declare sugarcane prices

Doiwala, Uttarakhand: Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sanghatan president VM Singh has demanded the government to announce the sugarcane price for the ongoing crushing season in Uttarakhand, reports Live Hindustan.

“As per the sugarcane control act, it is mandatory for sugar mills to make cane payment within 14 days of sending their crop for crushing. Mills have started operations but have not cleared cane bill stating that the government has not yet announced prices. Farmers are already in financial distress and if they do not get their cane bills in oime, the situation will worsen,” he said.

“Few sugar mills have not even cleared the cane dues of the last crushing season. We warn the government to announce cane price and clear dues by January 2 else we will launch agitations at the sugar mill gates in the state over our demands,” he added.
