Uttarakhand farmers demand to clear cane dues

Roorkee, Uttarakhand: Uttarakhand Kisan Morcha (UKM) held a meeting to discuss the farmers problem. Farmers discussed sugarcane arrears issue and asked sugar mills to clear the cane dues. They also asked the government to hike the cane price.

UKM said that it would launch an agitation if the government fails to hike the sugarcane purchase price. The meeting was chaired by Rajendra Singh. President of the organization, Gulshan Rode said, “The sugarcane crushing season is approaching but the sugar mills have not cleared the pending cane arrears. The government should take action against the sugar mills that have not paid cane arrears to the farmers.”
