Uttarakhand: Farmers demand to declare sugarcane purchase price

Dehradun, Uttarakhand: Farmers who have been protesting for the prompt announcement of sugarcane prices engaged in discussions with the Joint Sugarcane and Sugar Commissioner. The farmers reiterated their demand for an immediate announcement of sugarcane prices, reported Amar Ujala.

The ongoing protest led by Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and Uttarakhand Kisan Morcha officials in the Laxsar Sugar Development Committee is on from last mant days. On Saturday, the Joint Sugarcane and Sugar Commissioner, Himani Pathak, conducted an inspection of the Sugar Development Council along with Chief Administrative Officer Khubchand Babu. Following the inspection, she engaged in discussions with the protesting farmer leaders.

The farmer leaders stated that they have been sitting on a protest for 32 days, yet the state government has not announced the sugarcane prices. The farmers expressed their frustration, emphasizing that while they are selling their sugarcane to sugar mills, they are unaware of the rates for their produce.

In response to their demands, the official has been instructed to accept a memorandum from the farmers and ensure it is promptly forwarded to the Sugarcane Commissioner. This step is aimed at addressing the farmers’ issues at the earliest. Notable figures present at the occasion included Kushalpal Singh, Dr. Azad Singh, Jitendra Singh, Suresh Choudhary, Gorakh Singh, Rajkumar Nambardar, Kaluram Kuwan Kheda, Rajasinh Varma, Rajpal Singh, Sukhram Pal Singh, and others.
