Walterganj sugar mill gives relief to sugarcane farmers, workers

Basti, Uttar Pradesh: The management of the Walterganj Sugar Mill, operated by Bajaj Group, has paid outstanding dues worth one crore rupees to the district administration. On Monday, District Magistrate Priyanka Nirajan handed over cheque to the Tehsildar Sadar and directed to ensure the allocation of the received amount to the farmers and workers.

The Walterganj Sugar Mill was shut down after the end of the crushing season in 2017-18. Since then, the mill remained non-operational, causing a prolonged pending due of farmers and workers. The shutdown of the mill has led to frequent protests in the district, demanding its reopening and clearance of dues.

Due to non-payment, the farmers and workers have lodged complaints against the management of the sugar mill.

In the light of the situation, the district administration has put pressure on the sugar mill management to pay their dues. With the payment of one crore rupees, the situation may ease up for the farmers and laborers.
