Beed: Sugar mills in the district will not be allowed to start crushing before declaring cane purchase rate, warned the members of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna (SSS) in an application given to to the District Magistrate.

Sanghatna has ensured that the mills don’t operate before the convention. Sanghatana will organise its sugarcane convention on November 23 at Jaysingpur in Kolhapur district, where it is expected the head of the party and Former MP Raju Shetti may speak on sugarcane price.

Kuldip Karpe, Beed district unit head of SSS said, “The mills should declare the sugarcane purchase rate before starting cane crushing season. We will not allow them to start crushing and will launch an agitation for our demand.”

“The rule mandates that sugarcane amount should be deposited to the farmers’ bank accounts within 14 days after the sugarcane harvest is handed over to the factory owners, but the mills failed to do so,” he said.
