West Bengal aims to boost ethanol production

Calcutta: Like other states, West Bengal is also in the fray to boost ethanol production. The Bengal government has announced a policy to promote ethanol production and promotion in the state.

According to Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee, the state government will receive Rs 1,500 crore investment in the next one year for ethanol production.

Telegraphindia.com has reported, Banerjee said that it will help in creating around 48,000 new jobs in the state. The government will encourage industry to procure broken rice kernels from farmers and produce ethanol, which is gaining popularity as clean bio fuel.

The central government with an aim to lower the expenditure on foreign exchange has set a target of blending 20 per cent ethanol with petrol by 2025. The roadmap for ethanol blending in India 2020-25 was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5 this year on the occasion of World Environment Day.
