20 per cent ethanol blending by 2025: Petroleum Minister

New Delhi: Government has set a target of blending at least 20% ethanol with petrol by 2025, said Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. While answering a supplementary question during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha regarding the ethanol blending with petrol in the country he said that the government had earlier planned to achieve this target by 2030 but have advanced it till 2025.

The government is taking all the efforts to achieve this goal, he said. The government is consistently working on increasing the ethanol blending with petrol to reduce the import of crude oil into the country, he said.

Once we increase the mixing of ethanol with petrol, there will be an automatic decrease in the import of crude oil. This will also help in generating employment to local people and increase the income of sugarcane farmers in the country, he said.
