22 passengers from UK found COVID positive upon landing in India

New Delhi: As many as 22 people who came to India from the UK in the last few days have tested positive for Covid-19. The samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing amid the fear of finding a new mutant strain of the coronavirus in Britain.

Out of these 22 people, 11 are found positive in Delhi, eight in Amritsar, two in Kolkata and one in Chennai, said the officials. The government has stated that there is no instance of the mutant strain found in India so far.

All the people returning India from the UK have undergone RT-PCR tests after the new mutant train found in the UK and the flight service was suspended. The samples of these people have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune to test the presence of mutant coronavirus.

The flights from the UK have been suspended till December 31 as a precautionary measure.
