The sugarcane crushing season in Uttar Pradesh has gained momentum, with sugar production also picking up pace.
According to data from the state sugarcane department, Uttar Pradesh has so far crushed 390.79 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, producing 38.16 lakh tonnes of sugar. The sugar production is expected to reach 110 lakh tonnes this season.
Maharashtra is still ahead of Uttar Pradesh in terms of sugar production. According to data from the Maharashtra Sugar Commissionerate, 483.2 lakh tonnes of sugarcane had been crushed in the state as of January 7, 2024. The state has so far produced about 43.98 lakh tonnes of sugar.
The sugarcane department is ensuring that sugarcane payments are made smoothly and on time this season. The department said that sugar mills have accelerated payments for the previous crushing season due to the tough stance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and that sugarcane payments are being made on time this season as well.
