More than 76 per cent of sugarcane harvested so far

New Delhi: As the sugarcane crushing has entered the last stage, more than 76 per cent of sugarcane crop in the country has been harvested so far.

As per the data released by the agriculture ministry on Friday, about 48.51 lakh hectares was estimated total coverage under sugarcane in the rabi season of 2020-21. And more than 76 per cent harvesting has been done so far.

In some parts of the country, the sugar mills already closed their operations as they have completed crushing of the cane grown in their jurisdiction while some are in their final phase of completing crushing.

Harvesting of rabi crops have been completed in 44 per cent of the total 697 lakh hectares sown area during 2020-21 rabi season. In areas where harvesting has been completed, farmers have begun sowing early kharif crops of 2021-22 crop year (July-June).
