The newly constituted Bihar Cabinet held its first meeting on Tuesday and announced plans to create one crore jobs for the state’s youth over the next five years. The Bihar government has approved a major industrial push with plans to establish 25 new sugar mills across the state.
Briefing reporters after the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit said the discussions centred on large-scale employment generation and industrial development.
The chief secretary said that nine closed sugar mills will start functioning again, while 25 new ones will be set up.
25 new sugar mills will soon come up in Bihar, and the old closed mills are set to restart.
Work is expected to begin in the coming months.

He said Bihar aims to position itself as a тАЬtech hubтАЭ of eastern India, with proposals to establish a defence corridor, a semiconductor manufacturing park, global capacity centres, a mega tech city, and a fitness city.
Under the new-age economy framework, the state will be developed as тАЬa back-end hub and global workplace over the next five years,тАЭ he added.
Dedicated committees have been formed to drive these objectives, Amrit said. Another committee will draft plans for employment-focused initiatives in the start-up ecosystem to create livelihood opportunities for the stateтАЩs young and talented entrepreneurs.
The Cabinet also cleared an Artificial Intelligence Mission intended to make Bihar a leading state in the AI sector.
The government further announced greenfield township projects in eleven cities, including nine divisional headquarters, as well as Sonepur and Sitamarhi.
