Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has made record sugarcane payments exceeding Rs 3,04,321 crore during its tenure-Rs 90,802 crore more than the total payments made in the previous 22 years, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said while tabling a budget of Rs 9,12,696 crore in the state assembly on Wednesday.
He highlighted the government’s focus on infrastructure development and increased investment in social welfare schemes ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Presenting the budget, Khanna said that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of the leading states in the country. In his speech, he added that during both the previous and current terms, the state has witnessed significant progress across multiple sectors, including law and order, infrastructure expansion, industrial investment, job creation, women’s empowerment, youth skill development, farmer welfare, and poverty reduction.
For the 2025-26 crushing season, the government has increased sugarcane prices by Rs 30 per quintal, which will benefit farmers by an additional Rs 3,000 crore. During the 2025-26 Rabi marketing year, the state purchased wheat worth Rs 2,512 crore from farmers, while in the 2025-26 Kharif season, rice procurement exceeded Rs 9,710 crore and millet procurement reached Rs 595 crore.
