Sensex ends 634 points higher, Nifty above 12,210

Mumbai: The easing US-Iran tensions and global market rally helped Indian indices to recoup all its weekly losses and ended higher on January 9.

Sensex closed at 634.61 points higher at 41,452.35. Similarly, Nifty ended 190.05 points up at 12,215.40.

JSW Steel, Bharti Infratel, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers include TCS, Coal India, HCL Technologies, Britannia Industries and GAIL.

In the previous season, Sensex closed on January 8, 2020, at 51.73 points lower at 40,817.74. Similarly, Nifty ended 27.60 points down at 12,025.35.

The rupee is trading at 71.406 against the dollar.
