Amroha: Sugar mills owe Rs 220 crore to cane farmers

Amroha: Sugar mills in the district have ended the crushing operations for the ongoing season, but failed to clear 100 per cent cane dues.

According to the news report published in Livehindustan.com, sugar mills still owe around Rs 220 crore to the cane farmers. Around three sugar mills in the district procure cane from around 1.25 sugarcane farmers. The mills have so far cleared 75 per cent of the total cane dues.

The news report says Mandi Dhanaura sugar mill has cleared 67 per cent of cane dues. Chandanpur sugar mill has cleared 94 per cent, whereas Gajraula Sugar mill has cleared only 51 per cent of the total dues.

Chaudhari Surendra Singh, vice president of the BKU (Asli) has urged the sugar mills to clear the pending dues on a priority basis.

DCO Hemant Pratap has assured the farmers that the administration will ask the sugar mills to clear the pending cane dues as early as possible.
