Anyone found selling hand sanitizer above retail price of Rs 100 for 200 ml pack will face action

Lucknow: Principal Secretary, Excise Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh Mr. Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy has told that at present the Government of Uttar Pradesh is committed to prevent the spread of infection of Coronavirus. As per the instructions of the State Government, FL-41 licenses have been issued at a rapid pace to manufacture hand sanitizers to sugar mills, distilleries and drug license units established in the state. So far 27 sugar mills cum distillery units in the state, 10 distilleries and 39 other units have been licensed to obtain distilled alcohol for manufacture of sanitizer. In this sequence, 04 pharmacies are also manufacturing sanitizer.

As per the notification of the Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Government of India, dated 19-03-2020 para 2 (2) the raw material used in manufacture of Hand Sanitizers has been declared as essential commodity. In order to regulate the production, quality, distribution, prices and other aspects, it has been mandated that the price of alcohols used in manufacture of the hand sanitizer should not exceed from those prevailing on 05-03-2020 without the concurrence of the Central Government. Accordingly, as per the notification of the Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Government of India, dated 21-03-2020 para 2 (3) the retail price of 200 ml pack of hand sanitizer shall not exceed Rs.100/- For larger pack sizes the prices shall be determined proportionately.

Therefore, the retail price of hand sanitizer for the general public shall not be more than Rs. 100/- for 200 ml pack. Any violation of this order shall be punishable under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, Essential Commodities Order, 2020 and other relevant rules in this regard.
