App for sugarcane farmers in Maharashtra; crushing season likely to commence from October 1

With the bumper sugarcane production expectation, sugar mills in Maharashtra are likely to commence the upcoming crushing operations from October 1. However, the official decision will be taken by the Cabinet Committee on September 15.

To ease the problems of cane growers, the Maharashtra government has now provided a mobile app (Maha-US Nondani app) for them to register their sugarcane. Once registered, the mills cannot refuse the crushing of crop for any reason. The app has been developed by the Sugar Commissioner’s office.

Generally, cane crushing in the Maharashtra starts from late October to early November and ends in mid-April. The excess sugarcane grown in the state in 2021-22 season led the mills to continue operations till May end. The state is likely to witness record sugarcane production in upcoming season also.

The government is all set to begin cane crushing season from October 1, but the official decision will be taken by the Cabinet Committee on September 15, said State Co-operative Minister Atul Save, reported The Hindu BusinessLine.

“The app will help farmers to ensure that the cane they have grown will be crushed. The area under sugarcane is rising and farmers will not face any trouble to register their cane with mills,” he further added.
