Bandh observed in Mandya as farmers stage protest demanding cane price hike

Mandya: The 8-hour Mandya bandh was observed today, from 6 am to 2 pm, after it was called by the sugarcane farmers over demand to fix Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane at Rs 4,500 per tonne, reports Star of Mysore.

Cane farmers under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and other farmer organisations, traders, truck and auto drivers participated in the protest. They blocked the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway as a part of their protest.

The farmers’ agitation entered the 45th day and their agitation in front of Sir M. Visvesvaraya Statue in the town continued further.

Farmers took out a massive procession to the Office of the Mandya Deputy Commissioner after holding the protest at Sanjay Circle. They have threatened to intensify their agitation if the government fails to accept their demand.
