Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission suggests sugar price hike

The Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission has recommended a hike in sugar prices by Tk 15 per kg, reports The Financial Express.

The commission has sent recommendations to the commerce ministry following the demand made by sugar millers owing to rising production costs and a hike in interest rates by banks.

The increase in the price of sugar would be Tk 140 per kg and the MRP of loose sugar would be Tk 135 per kg, as per the commission.

We have received the recommendation of the commission but we have not taken any action on this, said a senior official from the Commerce Ministry.
