Bihar becomes one of the leading states in ethanol production: Shahnawaz Hussain

Gopalganj: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson and former industries minister of Bihar, Shahnawaz Hussain, visited a newly-built grain-based ethanol plant of Westwell Biorefineries Pvt. Ltd. in Gopalganj on Thursday, reported Dainik Bhaskar.

The plant, which has a daily ethanol production capacity of 167.5 kiloliters, commenced commercial production on September 18, 2023.

Hussain said that Westwell Biorefineries was the first company to apply to set up a grain-based ethanol production plant after the Bihar government introduced the Bihar Ethanol Production Promotion Policy.

He said that it was heartening to see ethanol being produced at the Westwell Biorefineries ethanol plant. He added that 15 such ethanol plants are nearing completion across Bihar and several have commenced commercial production.

Hussain said that it was gratifying to see the completion of a project that he had initiated. He expressed his happiness that Bihar has now become one of the leading states in ethanol production in the country.

The visit highlights the growing activity in the ethanol production sector in Bihar. The Bihar government has taken several steps to promote ethanol production, including the introduction of the Bihar Ethanol Production Promotion Policy 2022. Under this policy, subsidies and other facilities are provided to ethanol production units.
