BKU demands payment of pending cane arrears on priority basis

Mandi Dhanaura, Uttar Pradesh: Ummed Singh, state vice president of Bhartiya Kisan Union, has demanded that the Wave sugar mill should clear the pending cane arrears on a priority basis.

Addressing the gathering of farmers in Mandi Samiti area, he said, “The sugarcane farmers are facing a financial crisis and unable to meet their daily needs. Sugar mills should clear cane dues as it will give respite to the cane growers.”

Government is closely monitoring the daily cane payments by sugar mills. The lockdown imposed by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic has also affected many sugar mills across India. Mills claim that due to lack of finance they are unable to clear cane arrears.
