Cane crushing will take place without any obstruction: Minister

Kolhapur, Maharashtra: Sugarcane farmers have been demanding for one time fair and remunerative price (FRP) payment. As per media reports, mill operators have agreed for the same.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, the meeting of the farmers’ organizations and sugar millers was convened under the leadership of Kolhapur guardian minister Satej Patil. He said, “The farmers outfits and mill operators have agreed upon paying the farmers on the basis of the FRP fixed for this season. Now, I hope there are no violent agitations by the farmers and cane crushing will take place without any obstruction.”

The decision of the mill operators to pay the farmers as per the FRP rates is welcomed by Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana (SSS). Welcoming the decision taken by sugar mills, Jalandar Patil, leader of SSS said, “The payment should be done in one go and not in instalments as it happened last year.”
