Government begins discussion on increasing sugarcane FRP

Farmers have been demanding a hike in Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of Sugarcane. Now, the government has commenced the talk on the same.

According to the media report, the Central Government has begun discussing the proposal for an increase in FRP. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) will take a final decision on this.

As per a news report published in zeebiz.com, initial recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices have come and it will be taken up with the concerned ministries.

Earlier, keeping in view the interest of sugarcane farmers, the Cabinet had approved a hike in the FRP of sugarcane for sugar season 2020-21 at Rs. 285 per quintal for a basic recovery rate of 10 per cent which stood at Rs.275 per quintal.
