Committee formed for coordination of ISO Mid-Year Meeting 2024 to be held in India

The International Sugar Organization (ISO) has recently declared India as the Chair of the Organization for the year 2024 during its 63rd council meeting held at the ISO headquarters in London. Alongside this role, India will host the ISO Mid-Year Meeting, 2024 within the country..

In order to efficiently manage the coordination and arrangements for the ISO Mid-Year Meeting 2024, a dedicated committee has been formed. The committee’s composition is as follows:

-Joint Secretary (Sugar), DFPD – Chairperson
-Director (Sugar), DFPD – Member
-Shri Kirana Wadhwana, Senior Advisor, ISO – Member
-President, Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) – Member
-Managing Director, National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) – Member
-Chairman, All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) – Member

India holds a significant position in the global sugar landscape, being the largest consumer and the second-largest producer of sugar worldwide. With a 15% share in global sugar consumption and contributing to around 20% of the total sugar production, Indian sugar trends have a profound impact on global markets. Given this leading role, India emerges as the most fitting nation to lead the ISO, the apex international body overseeing sugar and related products, with approximately 90 member countries.
