Committee report suggests to start operations at Sanjivani sugar factory

Ponda: The Farmers’ Facilitation Committee headed by former MP Narendra Sawaikar has suggested reviving the Sanjivani sugar factory at the earliest. The committee has submitted its preliminary report to chief minister Pramod Sawant.

The committee has suggested utilising the service of the Deccan Sugar Technology Association, Pune to decide whether the factory could be modernised with available minimum resources or a new plant is needed.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, Sawaikar said, “We have suggested the government consider the possibility of producing ethanol and ensure that the mill runs for 300 days a year. The mill was not able to run for 100 days during the last few seasons.”

“We have also suggested importing molasses or cane syrup from other countries to continue ethanol production as the state does not produce adequate quantities of cane to produce ethanol”, he further added.
