Covid-19 threat: No Chhath Puja alongside water bodies in Mumbai

Mumbai: Considering the possible outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to not to allow the Chhath Puja festival on the sides of water bodies in Mumbai.

According to the news report published in Mumbai Mirror, BMC said, “The festival won’t be celebrated at riverbanks, ponds and beaches in Mumbai.”

Taking a similar stand, New Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha and Haryana have also decided to not to allow public Chhath puja celebrations due to Covid-19 threat.

Every year the Juhu beach witnesses large gatherings of people on the occasion of Chhath Puja. This may lead to a spike in coronavirus cases.
