Cyclone Fani: PM grants Rs 1,000 crore aid to Odisha

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced the financial aid of Rs 1,000 crore to the Odisha Government for relief and rehabilitation work in wake of havoc created by the cyclone Fani.

The Prime Minister also took stock of the situation and reviewed relief and rehabilitation operation in the state after the cyclone.

“Took stock of the situation in Odisha. Reviewed relief and rehabilitation operations that are underway. Announced assistance worth Rs 1000 crore to the Odisha Government. I compliment all agencies of the Centre and State Government working among people to restore normalcy,” he said in a series of tweets.

The Prime Minister directed officials concerned that all possible steps be taken to repair the damage in infrastructure, power lines, farms among other areas. He also asked officials to ensure roads and railway lines are repaired at the earliest and the farmers get their crop insurance in wake of the damage.

After reviewing the situation, Mr Modi said there was seamless co-ordination between the Centre and the Odisha government and it augured well in the run up to the cyclone and in helping affected citizens.

“Leveraging technology and human skills, work towards strengthening Odisha’s infrastructure will continue at a record pace,” he added.

Saluting the people of Odisha, especially fishermen and those living in coastal areas for their courage and compassion, the Prime Minister said they paid heed to timely warnings and left no stone unturned in helping fellow citizens in these tough times.

The entire nation has been praying for their well being, he maintained.
