Deadline near for sugar mills to clear cane dues

Lucknow: The festival of lights, Diwali, will also end soon, but yet sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh have not cleared pending cane dues. Sugarcane farmers are upset as it has become difficult for them to run their livelihood without money.

State sugarcane minister Suresh Rana said that action had been taken against the mills who failed to pay the cane arrears, which forced them to clear the dues. He assured that soon all dues would be paid.

He was on the visit to Ramala sugar mill to look after the preparations done for starting cane crushing. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be inaugurating the crushing season of the mill.

Issuing warning against the defaulter sugar mills, UP government had also set a deadline of October 31 to pay all the arrears of sugarcane farmers. It would be interesting to see, whether mills will clear all the dues or farmers will have to wait more time.
