DFPD writes to Excise Commissioners to ensure strict compliance of order that prohibits diversion of sugarcane juice and BHM for production of RS/ENA

Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) has written to Excise Commissioners of all the states/UTS to ensure strict compliance of order dated 15th December 2023.

Sunil Kumar Swarnkar, Under Secretary, DSVO in a letter said, “I am directed to refer to letter No.3(2)/2023-SP dated 15.12.2023 addressed to CEOs/MDS of all Sugar Mills/ Distilleries wherein they were instructed that ‘No diversion of sugarcane juice and B Heavy molasses is allowed for production of Rectified Spirit (RS) /Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA)’. It is requested that Excise Commissioners may kindly ensure strict compliance of these orders and intimate violations, if any, of these orders to this office immediately. Suitable action may also be taken as per extant provisions of the State Excise Act/Rules against the violating organizations.”

An order issued by the DFPD to sugar mills/distilleries on December 15 stated that no diversion of sugarcane juice and B Heavy molasses is allowed for production of Rectified Spirit (RS)/Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA).

According to the DFPD order dated December 15, 2023, OMCs were also asked to make revised allocations and placement of revised contracts for each distillery for the supply of sugarcane juice and B heavy molasses-based ethanol within a total diversion of 17 lakh tonnes (LMT) sugar. Yesterday, OMCs have issued indicative revised allocation of sugarcane juice and B-heavy molasses based ethanol.
