Egypt announces to import 1 million tonnes of sugar in 2024

Cairo: To address a sugar shortage impacting the local market, the Egyptian government announced plans to import one million tonnes of sugar in 2024, reported Egypt Today.

In response to the escalating local sugar prices, the Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade implemented measures to provide relief. This included the addition of one more kilogram of sugar per individual on family ration cards, with a cap of three persons. Additionally, households consisting of four or more individuals were granted an extra two kilograms of sugar on their ration cards.
