New Delhi: PFC, a state-owned entity, has agreed with Assam Bio-Refinery Pvt Ltd (ABRPL) to provide a loan of Rs 3,037.50 crore for the establishment of a bio-refinery plant in Numaligarh.

The bio-refinery plant, with a capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum, will utilize dry bamboo as its primary raw material. The facility aims to produce 2G bioethanol, along with other products such as furfuryl alcohol, acetic acid, liquid CO2, and a 24 MW bio-coal-based captive power plant. The estimated project cost for this initiative is Rs 4,200 crore.

ABRPL is notably one of the pioneering bio-refineries focused on producing ethanol from bamboo biomass. It operates as a joint venture with three promoters: Numaligarh Refinery Ltd and two foreign companies, Fortum and Chempolis, both hailing from Finland.
