Farm machinery bank established in 126 cooperative sugarcane and sugar mill societies to promote mechanization in sugarcane farming

Lucknow: Commissioner, cane and Sugar, Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy told that under the Promotion of “Agricultural Mechanization for In-situ Management of Crop Residue Scheme” Subsidy has been released by the Department of Agriculture to set up Farm Machinery Banks of Rs.5 lac value for crop residue management devices in 126 Cooperative Sugarcane and Sugar Mill Societies out of selected 149 by the Sugarcane Development Department. Farm Machinery Bank has been established in these 126 Cooperative Cane and Sugar Mill Societies by purchasing equipment’s related to crop residue management and these instruments are being made available to registered cane farmer members at a very minimal rental rate.

Giving further information in this regard, Shri Bhoosreddy said that with the success of this scheme, the Department has started the process for implementation of this scheme in the remaining 23 cooperative cane and sugar mill societies of Bareilly, Ayodhya, and Devipatan divisions.

He also informed that now 126 cooperative cane and sugar mill societies have started process of establishing farm machinery banks of Rs.10 lac cost under SMAM scheme. modern agricultural equipment’s including tractors will be purchased in this scheme.

It is also noteworthy that on one end farm machinery bank will ensure proper management of crop residues, on the other end, the use of modern agricultural equipment in sugarcane farming will increase the income of sugarcane farmers and Sugarcane farmers will be able to get more benefits by obtaining crop residue management equipment and agricultural implements at minimum rent from the Cooperative Cane societies.
