Farmers demand govt to fix cane price at Rs 500 per quintal

Daha, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers have demanded the government to fix the sugarcane purchase price at Rs 500 per quintal. They had gathered at the Nangla Kanwada village under the leadership of former sarpanch Mangeram and raised the demand.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman said that the input costs have increased and the farmers are unable to meet their expenses with the returns they get from the sugar mills. Hence we want the government to declare the cane price at Rs 500 per quintal, he said.

He also stated that the sugar mills should pay interest on the cane dues if they fail to pay farmers within 14 days as per the rule.
