Farmers demand to hike sugarcane price and early start of crushing season

Lucknow: Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh on Friday demanded government to take action against sugar mills that have not paid sugarcane dues to farmers. They also urged the government to quickly announce a sugarcane price of 400 rupees per quintal for the upcoming season.

In a memorandum sent to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through District Magistrate Ashok Sisodia, BKS state coordinator (sugarcane), Shyamveer Tyagi said that the sugarcane season has already begun. However, the state government has not yet announced a sugarcane price.

“Therefore, the government should immediately announce a sugarcane price of 400 rupees per quintal and start the crushing season in sugar mills soon,” Tyagi said.

District vice-president Satendra Rana said that the government should take strict action against sugar mills that have not yet paid sugarcane dues. He also demanded that the sugarcane price be paid with interest.
