Farmers in Tamil Nadu demand to hike in procurement prices of sugarcane, paddy

Dindigul: Farmers have urged the ministers to increase the procurement prices for sugarcane and paddy, reports New Indian Express.

They met the ministers at a regional-level public meeting organized at the collectorate that was attended by the Minister for Agriculture MRK Panneerselvam, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies R Sakkarapani, Minister for Rural Development I Periysamy apart from District Collector S Visakan.

Farmers from Dindigul, Theni, Tiruchy, Karur, and Tirupur attended the meeting that was organized ahead of the Agriculture Budget.

Farmers stated that the DMK had promised in its election manifesto to increase cane procurement price to Rs 4,000 per tonne and for paddy to be Rs 2,500 per quintal. Farmers are facing difficulties due to lower procurement rates, they said.

Minister for Agriculture MRK Panneerselvam said that the DMK will fulfill the promises it made in the remaining tenure of three years.
