Farmers in Tamil Nadu urged to go for new sugarcane variety

Tiruchirappalli: Sugar mills in Tamil Nadu are struggling as they are facing financial scarcity and sugarcane shortage. Therefore, the state is promoting CO 11015 variety of sugarcane to achieve better productivity and returns.

Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Principal Secretary, Agriculture said, “The variety grows in short duration and is high yielding one.” He was inspecting the plantation of the variety in the fields of EID Parry sugar factory at Pugalur in Karur district.

Cane growers in Tamil Nadu opt for the 86032 variety but the new variety has 0.5 per cent higher recovery than existing crop and grows within 8 to 12 months than the earlier variety which takes more around 12 months.
